Sun 4th March 2018 Cost? £18.00 - Booking via the Knitting & Stitching Show: https://www.theknittingandstitchingshow.com/spring/things-to-do/learning-curve-workshops/ In this 90 minute class you will use Bergschaf wool fibres, and learn resist felting (hollow 3D forms) to make a mini felted pod. Abigail will cover wet felting around a resist, how to produce strong felt and how to shape it. By the end of the class you will have completed a pod of your own. In this beginners workshop you will spend the day learning about the ancient craft of creating felt from wool fibres in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Abigail will introduce flat wet felting and by the end of the morning you will have created at least one sample of flat felt and learnt how and why wool fibres felt. Sketchbooks for Textile Artists

Felt Meets Cloth Studio Meeson Street, Homerton, London, E5 0EA When? 2018 dates TBC Cost? £85 - booking essential – materials, tea, biscuits and equipment supplied Abigail invites you to join her in her studio for a weekend of working with mixed media sketchbooks. Aimed at those who usually create through textiles, but who want to spend time developing and creating ways to gather, store, and work upon ideas and inspirations through sketch, collage and mixed media. Students will bind their very own simple sketchbook, using various papers, preparing pages ready to use. Abigail will show participants ways to approach the blank page, and then take inspiration from a short walk around the nearby Lea Valley Marshes, using the sketchbooks to gather ideas and materials to work from, and take through into future textile work. Suitable for anyone at any stage of their artistic career or journey. Please note this is not a traditional drawing class – students should be open to trying new ways of working in a sketchbook.

PAST WORKSHOPS:
BEGINNERS FAIRY LIGHTS In the workshop participants will learn about the ancient craft of creating felt from unspun wool fibres. I will introduce wet felting techniques including the basics of using a resist, and by the end of the workshop you will have created a string of felted lantern fairy lights to take home. We will make 10 bells/lanterns with ropes to attach to a 10 light string of LED lights. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners; all materials are included. BEGINNERS INTRO TO FELTMAKING In these full day intro to feltmaking workshops you will learn about the ancient craft of creating felt from wool fibres in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Abigail will introduce flat wet felting and by the end of the morning you will have created at least one sample of flat felt and learnt how and why wool fibres felt. You will move on in the afternoon to create a fantastic felted item you can take home and be proud of. Attendees often make a felt picture to frame at home, an oyster card holder, or a brooch. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners; all materials included. BEGINNERS TASTER SESSIONS In the taster workshop, Abigail welcomes you into her home studio to learn the basics of wet feltmaking, and by the end of the session you will have created at least one sample of flat felt and learnt how and why wool fibres felt. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners; all materials are included. INTERMEDIATE SCULPTURAL FELTMAKING (not suitable for complete beginners) In this class students will learn more about the ancient craft of creating felt from unspun wool fibres, and how to turn that into hollow 3D forms like pods and pouches. Abigail will cover wet felting around a resist, how to produce strong felt, and how to shape it. By the end of the workshop you will have created a pod or sculptural piece of your own design. This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners - you must have some basic feltmaking skills - if you are concerned at all about the level you are at please get in touch before booking; all materials are included.
